Write a paragraph convincing the reader to reduce their screen time, including TV, computer, phone, etc. throughout the day. Utilize persuasive words in your writing.
When was the last time you went hiking or to a simple park trip near your house? I remember growing up near the mountains with high pines and cristal water running down the river near my grandmother's home. My parents and I would visit my grandparents every other day to help them around the house. I would always hurry finish washing dishes and watering the cucumber and pumpkin plants in the patio to then go play in the river. We lived in a small rural town where resources were scarce, but I had a very humble and healthy childhood. Nowadays, living in a capitalist society bombarded with the daily stressors of life as well as the incredible advancement of technology we spent incredible amount of time working on a desktop or laptop, using our phone for not only communicating but also personal responsibilities, watching television, playing video games, etc. We often decide to stay home binge-watching TV instead of going for a walk around the block, reading a book, painting, planting a garden or simply sleeping. Nature and the feeling of pure fresh air has been forgotten by many of us. Since the early morning a lot of us spend eight-hour shifts working on a computer or checking our phone for notifications desperately waiting for an upcoming text or a new post in our social media accounts. In a 2019 study about the effects of screen time in children, "Type of screen time moderates effects on outcomes in 4013 children: evidence from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children", it was found that screen time is harmful to our mental health increasing depression and affecting academic performance in students. The more time we spend on a screen, the more time we lose to spend with our loved ones, our pets, or the opportunity to get better at our favorite hobby (e.g. playing an instrument, chess, singing, dancing, etc.). It is important to note that even though technology brings a lot of benefits to our daily life, it also has a harmful impact. It not only robs the time we spend doing things we love, but also the health and wellness of our body. It has been shown that spending more time in front of the TV or any other electronic device affects our physical activity bringing health problems down the road, such as low/high blood pressure, eunrelieved stress, interrupted sleep or insomnia, weight gain, addiction to our devices, and our general well being overall. I even believe spending immense amount of time in social media platforms can affect our mental health in negative ways if we do not balance our time. For these reasons, I believe we should balance our time in front of electronic screens and focus on having a more active life with the people we love, doing the things that bring us joy, and limit the amount of time we spend a day in front of a screen for the better of our health.
