Explain the German Bundestag's (German House of Representatives) voting system.
The German electoral system is a new age combination of plurality and proportional representation. Every German citizen is given two votes, they can vote for their local candidate and they can also vote for a party of their choice party. This means that roughly half of the German representatives are chosen by receiving the most votes in their area, meanwhile the other half of the seats are given to the party proportionally. This can get complex fast, however a simple way of think about it is if party 1 get 40% of the second votes they will get roughly 40% of the available seats. This means that Germany can have a house containing six or seven parties.
