Question:

Describe your daily routine in Italian (5 sentences max.)

Lorenzo S.
Answer:

Question:

Describe in general terms the greenhouse gas effect.

Inactive
Lorenzo S.
Answer:

Sunlight passes through the Earth's atmosphere and warms the surface of the Earth. Infrared radiation is given off by the Earth and most escapes to outer space, consequently cooling the Earth. However, some of that infrared radiation is trapped by gases in the air and remains in the Earth's atmosphere, therefore reducing the cooling of the Earth. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, have a very high global warming potential (GWP) which means that due to their molecular structure and residence time in the atmosphere, they are very efficient at trapping heat. The rapid increase of these greenhouse gases since the industrial revolution has been proven to be contributing significantly to a rapid increase in average global temperatures.

Question:

What allows cetaceans like whales and dolphins to dive underwater for so much longer than humans?

Inactive

Answer:

They are able to do so for several reasons. Cetaceans have many physiological adaptations that give them an advantage over humans in terms of oxygen retention. For instance, there are pigments in their blood that have become specialised in allowing more efficient transfer of oxygen from the lungs into the blood. Cetaceans are also able to use up to 90% of the oxygen they inhale as compared to humans that are only able to use around 15% of the oxygen they inhale. Whales are also extremely efficient swimmers and use minimum effort to travel and hunt for food in order to conserve precious oxygen.
