Question:

How is the President of the United States elected?

Inactive

Answer:

The President is elected by electors at the Electoral College which meets every 4 years to determine the next president. Each states gets electors based on how many Representatives and Senators they have in Congress. For instance, Illinois had 18 Representatives and 2 Senators, resulting in 20 electors in 2020. The population of Illinois votes for which set of electors to send, the Democratic ones or Republicans. Illinois is a "winner-takes-all" state, meaning whoever gets the most votes gets all those electors. Biden won the state of Illinois, therefor het got all 20 electors. However, these electors are not bound to their states choice, meaning these people can switch their vote. Overall, each person votes for their state's electors to make the best decision for president.

Why did the first form of government fail after the Americans won the war against the British?

Answer:

The Articles of Confederation failed due to the lack of a central government. This form of government put an emphasis on states, thereby reducing the power of a central government. In order to maintain a union, the framers ditched this government and formed the Constitution, which balanced power between the states and the federal government.
