Question:

What are two ways to help students increase their vocabulary in their writing?

Answer:

Two ways to help increase student vocabulary are through the use of a thesaurus and games. One of my favorite games to play with students is called glittering gems. In this game, students use adjectives to describe a noun. They have to find as many adjectives as they can until someone guesses their noun. This is a fun game that students like to play because it doesn't feel like traditional learning.

What are two ways to teach children their alphabet?

Answer:

I would teach children their alphabet through various activities, including gross motor such as throwing a ball for every letter name. I would also teach students through fine motor activities such as writing the letters in sand or rice. Another way to teach the alphabet is through songs.

Question:

When teaching a kindergarten how to read, what are three things to look for when reading a book?

Answer:

Three things that should be monitored when a student is learning how to read are using context clues such as the pictures or the words around a difficult word. Second, I would be looking to see if a child knows sight words and needs more practice with those words. The Dolch word list is what I use for those sight words. Third, I would be looking to see if a child uses their finger to follow the words on the page. This is important when beginning to learn how to read and helps me know if the student is tracking correctly.
