Questions
Subject: Health and Medicine
Describe type II diabetes, one way to help prevent it, and one treatment for it.
In a normal body, insulin attaches to cells and allows glucose to enter. In type II diabetes, the body either does not have sufficient insulin or the receptors on cells are resistant to insulin and do not allow glucose to enter. One way to prevent Type II DM is to have weight under control. Standard treatment for Type II is to go on diet and exercise plan along with starting oral medication such as Metformin.
Subject: Nursing
You are the primary nurse for Ms. Jones. Ms. Jones is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow morning and you are getting her paperwork ready. You are having the patient signed the informed consent and the patient has a question about the procedure. What do you do?
As the primary nurse, I would tell the patient, only the provider preforming the procedure can answer questions and concerns you have. I would not let the patient sign the form, until she has spoken to the provider and her questions/concerns have been met.
Subject: Anatomy
Describe two main functions of the liver and why they are important.
The liver is important because it filters blood and produces albumin. Filtering blood is important because it will remove harmful substances, in which would otherwise build up in your body and can cause toxicity. The liver makes a protein called albumin. If the body does not have enough albumin, it allows fluid to move out of blood vessels and into the tissue. This is because albumin helps hold fluid in the vessel among its many functions.
