Questions

Subject: Writing

Question:

When is a good time to find a writing tutor?

Answer:

Anytime! Whether a student has a full draft of a writing piece, half a draft, or even a blank paper and some ideas, I can support them through the process of writing. Writing can feel stressful sometimes, but it's also a wonderful opportunity to show your creativity!

Subject: Study Skills

Question:

Why do you need a tutor to study?

Answer:

Technically, you don't need a tutor to study, but you DO need a study buddy. My favorite belief about studying is this: If you can teach the subject to someone else, you understand it. In other words, if the student can successfully explain a subject/concept to me, then they have mastered that subject. If they can't quite explain it, then we'll work together until they feel confident about it!

Subject: English

Question:

What's so special about teaching English? What does teaching English mean beyond just reading and writing skills?

Answer:

One of my primary goals as an English teacher is to help students understand the world around them and their place in it by analyzing the works of writers and artists, allowing space for students to make their own discoveries but guiding them along the way. By engaging in critical thinking and other literacy skills, students develop their abilities to use their voice to pursue the things that they love.
