About Courtney
Hi, my name is Courtney and I stay at home with my two girls, ages 4 and 1. Before I stayed home, I taught Spanish and then began working in the local public library and loved it. I was encouraged by the library director to get my masters in library and information science and so I did. I worked in the Youth Services department there until I found the research and instruction librarian position at the local community college in the same town! I loved being able to teach research skills and do one on one research appointments with students,

Teaching Experience

Teaching Experience
I began teaching Spanish in 2011 in my student teaching. I had a wide range of levels that I taught from Spanish 2 all the way to Spanish 5. After student teaching, I taught high school Spanish 1 and 2 at a private school part time as I worked at the library. Also during that time I began teaching adult Spanish classes at a local company to help its employees more effectively communicate. I love teaching in any subject or form but research skills instruction in the librarian role is my favorite! I love being able to teach a skill that...

Work Experience
Mitchell Community College, Librarian
2016 - 2019
This was an all encompassing librarian position. I cataloged, gave customer service and reference help at the front desk, wrote grants, helped faculty and staff with research for their own grants, helped faculty find and implement Open Educational Resource textbooks, taught most of the research and instruction classes, and provided one on one research help with students. At Mitchell Community College, I taught the widest age range with the youngest being 13 because they were freshman in one of the early college programs, and oldest being in...
Hexpol Compounding, Spanish Teacher
2016 - 2018
Taught two levels of Spanish for the employees to better communicate with other employees. I taught a basic entry level Spanish to some who had no previous Spanish knowledge, and a taught a more advanced one more focused on Southern Mexican dialect for a hand full of employees who would be going to Mexico for a month or more to train employees at a newly opened plant. The ages in these groups were between 18-60.
Iredell County Public Library, Library Program Specialist & Makerspace Coordinator
2012 - 2016
I worked in the Youth Services Department so I gave reference help, assisted students in their research and help find sources for them. I also planned and implemented many programs, some being regular and some being an annual large event like the November Native American Heritage Month program. Many of my regular programs included preschool storytime, a bilingual storytime, after school homework help, outreach programs to the local HeadStarts, and nursing homes throughout the community. In this time I was also appointed Iredell Makerspace...
Crossroads Christian School, Spanish Teacher
2012 - 2016
Taught Spanish 1 and 2 part time for their highschool students. Planned lessons and used a variety of teaching methods to facilitate the best environment for learning Spanish in. I had a textbook that I utilized and used as a guide, but used mostly my own lessons plans and activities to appeal more to my students' styles of learning.
