One of my most favorite ways to remember the steps for long division is by remembering the phrase "Does McDonalds Sell Cheeseburgers Raw?" On the side of your paper before beginning to solve a long division problem, you will write the first letter of each of those words like this: D M S C B R "Does McDonalds Sell Cheeseburgers Raw" (or DMSCBR) can help to remember the steps and to make sure you don't skip any important ones. 1. D: Divide 2. M: Multiply 3. S: Subtract 4. B: Bring Down 5. R: Remainder

What is the difference between using the articles "a" or an," and using "the" before a word?

These are all different examples of articles that refer to nouns. "A" and "an" are examples of indefinite articles, which you would use when describing an object/subject/person that is unknown. When you use "a" or "an" you are not referring to a specific object. For example, if you said "I want to a clothing store in the mall," you aren't specifying exactly where you want to go. You are saying that you would like to go to any clothing store in the mall, rather than saying you are going to one specific store. However, using "the" is an example of a definite article. You use this when you are naming a specific noun. If you were going to go to a specific store in the mall, you would use the word "the" before the noun. For example, if you wanted to go to a store called "Children's Happiness," you would say "I want to go to THE Children's Happiness store." You are referring to one specific store, rather than just any store in general.

Why is it important to implement social emotional learning in the classroom?

Social emotional learning is critical to ensuring that students can be the best learners they can be. Encouraging a growth mindset and working with students daily on activities to promote positive thinking will help them develop more positive mindsets as well as develop strategies to utilize when they are struggling with stress or their emotions. It is important to teach students GRIT and the power of yet. Showing students videos of famous people that have not given up, teaching strategies for what to do when you feel anxious or want to quit, and help students feel more ready to conquer challenges inside and outside of school. Studies have shown that students who participate in social emotional learning have higher grades, improved attendance, and stronger coping skills. Social Emotional Learning is also critical to classroom management, as it can help students to develop more positive strategies for behavior and responses to emotions like anger or frustration, as well as help them to develop strategies for self awareness, self management, positive relationships, and good decision making. Social emotional learning can be incorporated throughout the day in the classroom, and starting each Morning Meeting with an SEL activity will lead to a more positive classroom environment.
