Question:

I think I'm done with my paper. Is there anything I can do to tighten it up before submitting it?

Answer:

There are three things I recommend doing before submitting a paper: 1) Give yourself a break. Even ten minutes allows you to come back to the page with a fresh start. 2) Open up a thesaurus. When you do this, you're not looking for especially fancy words, you're looking for words that help you get your points across better. 3) Read your papers aloud. This allows you to understand what flows in the paper and what still needs tweaked.

Question:

What is the milieu of a story?

Answer:

The milieu of a story encompasses all the physical settings plus the culture. Imagine Lord of the Rings without Middle Earth and without the power of the rings. Imagine Ender's Game without earth being at war and without Ender being in space. Milieus are often an essential element that allow stories to play out.

Question:

What does an adverb do? What are the adverbs in this sentence?: I strum my ukulele well, and it sounds quite delightful.

Answer:

There are two common misconceptions about adverbs. 1) Adverbs only describe verbs & 2) Adverbs always end in -ly. Here's the tea: 1 -> Adverbs modify more than just verbs. In fact, they modify adverbs, adjectives, and verbs. 2 -> Adverbs answer the questions How? Where? When? To what extent? Not all of these adverb answers will end in -ly. To determine an adverb in a sentence, we can use these questions as guides. How did I strum my ukulele? : well, modifies a verb To what extent does it sound delightful? : quite, modifies an adjective Well and quite are the adverbs in the sentence.
