Question:

Find f'(x) (the derivative of f(x)) if f(x) = 7x'3 - 2x'2 + 4x - 5.

Marcus J.

Rule of derivatives: x^n -> nx^n-1 Another arbitrary example: 5x^3 -> 3*5x^(3-1) -> Derivative of 5x^3 = 15x^2 f(x) = (7x^3) - (2x^2) + (4x) - 5 One rule, the derivative of a constant is 0, so in this case, -5 will be eliminated from the equation once we complete the derivative. (7x^3) -> (21x^2) (2x^2) -> (4x) (4x) -> (4).... 4x is the same as 4x^1 -> (1*4x^(1-1)) = 4x^0, and anything raised to the zeroth power is 1. (x^0) = 1 And for derivatives, always add the +C, which represents the constant. Derivative: (21x^2) - (4x) + (4) + C

Question:

Discuss the impact of the Woodrow Wilson administration on the political landscape of today.

Marcus J.

Woodrow Wilson presided between the years of 1912-1920. He won the election of 1912, Defeating both William Howard Taft (Republican), and Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt (Bull Moose). This election is very similar to the election of 1992, where the vote was split in order for Bill Clinton to win. Woodrow Wilson was an extreme isolationist and didn't believe that the United States should get entangled with foreign affairs, hence the United States late entry into World War I (coined the Great War at the time). This is what makes him different, as in presidents of modern times have been entangled in foreign affairs, example: War on Terror, Syria, etc. This list below is what Wilson allowed under his watch, and impacts the country to this day. 1. The movie titled "The Birth of a Nation (1915)"- This film was directed by D.W. Griffith. This film told an inaccurate story of the ending of the Civil War. It portrayed the Black Americans (newly freed) as savages, animals, and unconscious criminals, and it portrayed the Ku Klux Klan as the saviors of the Civil War. The Ku Klux Klan was dormant at the time, but thanks to Woodrow Wilson showing this film in the white house, it spawned the second iteration of the Ku Klux Klan, would led to treacherous murders of non-whites all over the country. The number of lynchings increased as well. Today, we see police killings and harassment of unarmed people all over the United States. 2. Jim Crow Laws- Under the Wilson administration, Jim Crow laws became eminent, and permeated the South and affected everything from voting laws (poll taxes), segregation (white and black water fountains, bathrooms, restaurants, libraries, and other businesses). It took tons of Civil Rights protest, and activism to reverse the damage caused by the Wilson administration in regards to race relations, and now it is a popular belief that there is voter suppression happening in states like Texas and Georgia.

Question:

By solving the equation a = 2 - 9a, the value of a will be: Add the -9a to the left side of the equation: (a+9a) = 2 (-9a+9a) The -9a on the right side of the equation cancels, then we have: 10a = 2 The goal is to get the a by itself, so we decide both sides by 10: (10a/10) = 2/10 10/10 = 1, so: a = 2/10...... 2/10 can be simplified to 1/5, so 1/5 is the correct answer.

Marcus J.

Find the slope for the equation 8x + 4y = 24 First, we have to rearrange the equation into the slope-intercept form: y=mx+b Where, y = slope, b= y-intercept, 4y = -8x + 24 Next, we have to get y by itself, so we divide both sides of the equation by 4. (4y/4) = ((-8x+24)/(4)) y = -2x + 6 Our slope is -2, and our y-intercept is 6.
