Question:

A triangle has a perimeter of 67. If 2 of its sides are equal and the third side is 7 more than the equal sides, what is the length of the third side?

Jasmine M.

Answer:

Let x = length of the equal side. Two sides of the triangle would be x and the third side would be x+7. If the perimeter is 62 then when you add all the sides it should equal the total perimeter. x+x+x+7=67 Combine all the like terms. 3x+7=67 Subtract 7 from both sides. 3x=60 Now divide both sides by 3 to isolate x. x=20 The question is asking for the 3rd side of the triangle so plug in 20 for x. x+7=? 20+7=27

Question:

Adrian has just started his own T-Shirt business. He makes 17 dollars each shirt he sells and his monthly expenses are $600. What is the minimum number of shirts Adrian must sell to make a profit?

Jasmine M.

Answer:

Lets let x equal the number of shirts sold. His profit would be equal to be 17x - 600 Profit= 17x-600 To break a break even the profit would have to be equal to 0 0 = 17x-600 From this point, you would have to solve for x by adding 600 to both sides. 600=17x Now to isolate x we divide both sides by 17. x=35.29… Since x is equal to the number of shirts you must round up to the nearest whole number because you can’t sell a fraction of a shirt. So, the number shirts that Adrian must sell to start making a profit is at least 36 shirts.
