When do you use a semicolon?
To see if you should use a semicolon, I like to look at the two sentences on each side and make sure they are both independent clauses. If one is a dependent clause, you need a different punctuation mark, such as a comma.
What is your favorite character archetype and why?
At the moment, I am interested in reading about flawed female characters like Femme Fatales. For so long, society has told women to be good girls and portrayed them as such in media. Femme Fatales break this stereotype because they are given the space to make mistakes, which makes them more relatable to readers.
What's the difference between effect and affect?
It's easiest to remember that effect is a noun and affect is a verb. You can ask yourself: is something in the process of being affected? Or is there an effect on something.
