Question:

2x-6=12

Answer:

Your goal is to separate x from the rest of the equation. You'll start by adding 6 to each side. -6 +6 cancels out. 12 + 6 = 18 Now your equation reads 2x=18. To make x alone you'll want to do the opposite of what it reads. When two numbers are together with no symbol in between them just as 2x is, this means it's being multiplied. Opposite of multiplication is division. Divide each side by 2. 2x/2= x and 18/2 gives you 9. Now your equation reads x=9 To check yourself, you can plug 9 into the equation. 2(9)-6= 12
