Question:

In "Into the Wild" what do you think was one of Chris's major reasons for leaving, and why? Support your answer with portions of the text.

Answer:

I personally think Chris McCandless's major reason for leaving was the amount of stress that his parents and society put on him as a student. You can really see this because the new lifestyle he chooses is completely the opposite. Chris has gone off the grid, and has decided to live off of the wilderness. Chris's parents even display their shock and dismay at Chris leaving because of how much of a star student and athlete he was at school. There doesn't seem to be a realization on his parents end that maybe this was too much for Chris to handle, and therefore created a situation where Chris felt he had to leave.
