Subject: Library and Information Science

Question:

Why can I not search library databases like I do with Google?

Inactive
Brad K.
Answer:

Library databases use keywords to find information related to the topic(s) you are researching. Google can be used with keyword, but its greatest achievement is successfully using natural language processing (e.g., sentences). Databases do not use sentences like Google because libraries and Google serve two different types of customers. For example, libraries cater to people searching for specific information in specific topics while Google returns millions of general results on a specific topic which may or may not help the user in his or her search.
