Questions

Subject: French

TutorMe
Question:

What is the correct way to translate this sentence: Je suis allée a (accent grave) la bibliothèque.

Inactive
Monica D.
Answer:

The verb "aller" is one of the 14 verbs that use être when conjugated in the past tense. So, "Je suis allées" means "I went" (if a woman or girl is the one speaking). You probably already know that "au" is the preposition a (accent grave) put before a masculine noun, as in "a + le = au". Lastly, "bibliotheque" is the French word for library while "librairie" is the word for bookstore.

Question:

How do I know if a sentence is too long, or a run-on sentence?

Answer:

A run-on sentence occurs when the writer tries to combine independent clauses without the proper punctuation and wording. To combine two independent clauses, you need to use either a comma and conjunction, a semicolon, a colon, or a dash.

Subject: Study Skills

Question:

How do I create a study plan that will increase my chances of getting a B or higher on a test?

Answer:

The key to improving test scores is to have a consistent study plan-- right from the beginning. After a lecture on a topic, review your notes later that same day. Create a list of the most challenging concepts and jot down any follow-up questions to ask the next time class meets. Keep adding to your notes and reviewing them continuously. Quiz yourself beginning at least a week before the test. You can use Quizlet, or a practice version of the test. You can even create your own practice test ahead of time. Keep homework assignments, regardless how well you score on them. If you missed a question, find out the right answer, and add a similar question to your self-quiz or flashcard set. Having a plan for study that starts early will help you truly understand and retain concepts instead of memorizing them.
