What are social determinants of health?
Social determinants of health are circumstances such as income, race, gender, etc. that impact an individual’s health and well-being, often putting vulnerable populations more at risk for negative health outcomes.
I have an assignment on topic xyz, and I have a bunch of ideas, but I don’t know where to start. How should I organize them?
Start by listing out all of your ideas on a piece of paper. From there, build a visual map of the ways that your different ideas connect. Once you figure out how the ideas connect, decide what you want your major claims to be and what evidence you have to support those claims. Organize your paper as a process through your claims that support your larger argument, and use evidence to back those claims up.
Subject: Gender Studies
What does intersectionality imply?
Intersectionality refers to the ways in which a person’s various marginalized identities overlap to impact the degree to which that person is discriminated against. For example, a black woman faces different kinds of discrimination due to the color of her skin and due to her birth assigned gender. These two identities can overlap to increase the degree to which she is marginalized since she holds two marginalized identities rather than one.
