About Katya
I am second year astrophysics major at Boston University, aspiring to work in both high energy astrophysics research and science outreach. I love presenting at conferences and explaining physics concepts to others, as well as working with younger students in classrooms, at camps, and as a peer mentor.
Teaching Experience
Currently I work for Project Accelerate, teaching AP Physics 1 along side a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). I hold sessions once a week where about 10 high school students perform physics labs and complete practice worksheets with my guidance. I also tutor some of these students one on one. Previously I have taught my own course on Black Hole theory to high schoolers as part of MIT Splash, taught sex ed at a local public high school, taught astronomy at a girl scout camp, and held rocket design workshops for middle schoolers.

Work Experience
Boston University Department of Physics, Project Accelerate Teaching Assistant
2017 - Present
Using BU's AP Physics MOOC to offer college board's AP Physics 1 to Boston high schoolers who would not otherwise have a chance to take the class and working to determine the best strategies to teach physics to this population of students.
Boston University Department of Astronomy, Research Assistant for the VLBA-BU-Blazar Program
2016 - Present
The VLBA-BU-Blazar program aims to determine the locations and origin of high energy photons in blazars, a category of AGN whose jet is pointing towards earth. By using the Very Large Baseline Array (VLBA), a system of ten radio telescopes located around the US, at 43 GHz, the program carries out monthly monitoring of a sample consisting of 34 blazar and 3 radio galaxy jets to obtain images including linear polarization measurements.
