Question:

What should I major in if I want to go to law school?

Christopher C.
Answer:

Anything that excites you. Really. I mean it. While we certainly have our share of students that come from the "usual suspect" majors, I have found that what really matters is a commitment to do the work and a solid academic transcript and LSAT score. That said, writing and speaking are huge components of legal education, so try to take courses where you're writing a lot or giving oral presentations. An added advantage to this is that professors will be able to write about these skills in their letters of recommendation on your behalf.

Question:

What influences voting behavior on the US Supreme Court?

Christopher C.
Answer:

There are a number of competing schools of thought on what dynamics influence voting patterns on the US Supreme Court. One, attitudinal, place justices on an ideological spectrum and predicts that they will vote accordingly. Another, historical institutionalism, argues that the justices are a product of time and place and that voter behavior is influenced by social and cultural factors around them.

Question:

Why was the Constitutional Convention called?

Christopher C.
Answer:

The Constitutional Convention was convened for the initial purpose of revising the Articles of Confederation, under which the former colonies (now states) had lived up to that point. Eventually, the delegates to the Convention realized that the Articles did not create a strong enough government to ensure national unity, and so they set out to create a stronger, more lasting and durable Union.
