Question:

There is a triangle on a graph and each vertex's point on the graph is given. The points are (0,0), (6,-2), and (3,3). Without using a graph or drawing, write the points of each vertex if the triangle were to be translated right 3 units and up 2 units.

Hayden Z.

Answer:

This problem is easy once the idea of points and how they relate to the x and y-axis is understood. A coordinate pair is (x,y). X meaning the number of units right or left from the intersection of the x and y-axis. Y is the number of units up or down from the intersection on the x and y-axis. With this knowledge, we can now conclude that a triangle translated 3 units to the right and 2 units up, the change in x would be +3 and the change in y would be +2. Using the starting points of the vertices of the triangle, we can add 3 to the x value and add 2 to the y value to find out where that point will fall after it is translated. (3,2), (9,0), and (6,5)

Question:

Solve for x when; -3x+5=14

Hayden Z.

Answer:

To solve for x, the equation must be undone. If one number is the result of a process (or equation), then the process is also the result of that number. Therefore any equation or process can be reversed. -3x+5=14 - Subtract 5 from both sides. -3x=9 -Then divide both sides by -3. x=-3 -And the process is undone and gives us the missing piece of information that x represented.
