What is the concept of environment vs. biology in terms of psychology?
In simple terms, environment vs. biology as it pertains to a person's psychology is the idea that both have a large role in shaping the thought processes and identity of a person as they go through early brain development. Biology contributes things that cannot be changed in a person due to their genetic nature. Examples of these things are hereditary mental illness, individual response to stimuli/stress, etc. In contrast, the environment is suggested to be an equally strong factor in a person's psychological development, particularly in the early years of their life. The environment is variable and can have a large effect on brain development. Instances in early childhood such as bullying, lack of nurturing, abuse, etc all can have large effects on the eventual development of the person's brain and their individual psychology.
