When writing an essay, how do I know if my thesis is strong enough?
While most people put a lot of stress into a thesis, it is simply just the topic of your essay. Depending on your teacher and his/her criteria, your thesis can be formatted generally one of two ways: 1) Directly - when your thesis is made clear in a single sentence. This sentence would lay out the direction you are going to take your essay while giving the reader a clear overview as to what will be discussed. 2) Indirectly - when you spread the main points of your essay throughout the first paragraph in more than one sentence. Either way, I would say that, as a rule of thumb, you should be able to read the first pararaph of your paper on its own and know exactly what the essay is about and where it is headed.
What is deconstruction?
Deconstruction is a literary approach to analyzing a piece of work. It is based on the idea that meaning is subjective. To deconstruct a piece of literature, one would break it down to find symbols, themes, patterns in language, etc. and find the ways in which they contrast. Once popularized by psychoanalysts, deconstruction is now seen as more of an extreme method of analyzing text.
