Question:

Why write?

Answer:

Why breathe? Writing is a way for us to express ourselves and comment on our environment. It helps people process their emotions, too. It is also a skill. Writing is required at minimum to excel in most subjects, as well as in many professions. It is underrated yet, mighty!

Subject: Sociology

Question:

Why is Sociology such a progressive field when its 'fathers' are just that--European men?

Answer:

While the field of Sociology is credited to Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, and Karl Marx, the field has evolved over time to encompass academics from all over the world who not only are making great achievements in the field of this social science, but who, too, are questioning its origins. Unlike other fields, Sociologists are very focused on context, and many have explained the field's foundation with the truths of that era: that white men were the only ones able to ascertain high degrees and intellectual status.

Subject: Literature

Question:

Why is Literature so important to societal evolution?

Answer:

While humans have made technical inventions that radically transformed society (the wheel, antibiotics, the internet), it is impossible to overstate how critical Literature has been in helping humans express their perceptions of the world they inhabit. Literature is often a synthesis of the human condition, explaining through allegory or prose, critiques and unique perceptions of current affairs, history, and social code. Without this commentary distributed en masse for the sake of critical thought, it is hard to imagine that individuals could process the world as they know it, and imagine a different system.
