Question:

Is it better to use contractions or to spell them out (such as the word don't)?

Answer:

Since contractions are used in our everyday conversations, we shouldn't use them in academic writing. Spelling out each of the words will help the reader see the meaning of the writing.

Question:

How do I graph the equation x+3y=11?

Answer:

Hi! In order to come up with an answer to this problem, we need to get y by itself. So, we need to subtract x from the left side of the equals sign and do this on the other side of the equals sign. Now, the equation is 3y=-x+11. We still need the y to be by itself, so we should divide 3 by 3y to make it just y (since the 3's cancel each other out) and do this on the other side of the equals sign. The equation is now something we can plug into our calculators or plug numbers into plot on a graph.
