Is a well-rounded education necessary for this culture of specialty career focus?
A well-rounded education is absolutely essential, especially in this culture of specialty career focus. It is important that an individual has exposure to the many and varied specialty areas in their chosen field of study. This exposure may be via a brief encounter with the subject matter. Even this brief encounter will assist the student in choosing their career focus When an individual begins to broaden their horizons in their chosen area of study they should also include other areas of lesser but yet important interest. For example, a student may have an interest in nursing, and take a summer class for Certified Nurse Assistant while still in high school. By this, the student may learn whether or not direct patient care is their forte. This learner may also add classes such as the Art of Storytelling as a humanities requirement for their nursing degree. Thereby increasing their abilities in written and oral communication. Learning opportunities are endless, one should never stop the process.
