What role in student success does information technology play?
Students can now find information quickly without the use of traditional books. They can use multiple search engines to glean the most pertinent information and use webinars and educational videos anytime and anywhere. students can participate in online courses podcasts, blogs and social media formats. Communication through email, texting and face to face platforms (ex. Duo, Zoom, GoMeet) are useful and fast for interactions with other students and instructors.

What changes took place for library during the covid 19 shutdown?
Library Media rose to the challenge. Schools partnered with the public library. Ebooks were purchased more than ever before and shared with other librarian's library's. Massive trainings were conducted for librarians on all kinds of digital media so they could better serve their patrons and point them in the right direction if further assistance was needed. Sora became the leading platform for students to get books. Virtual webinars for librarians are still being used as a way for us to collaborate and share information.
Subject: Digital Media
Is isolation more acute with digital media vs. in-person?
As a teacher of library science, digital media does not have to equal isolation. Many platforms exist such as GoMeet, Zoom, Duo etc. Where the isolation happens is when kids or instructor do no engage with video. Only the sound is on and that makes for students and teachers feeling disconnected. When the instructor has students that can see each other and respond (observing social etiquette) isolation decreases. Teachers will have to learn skills to keep students engaged such as using Flip Grids, Jamboards, Pear Deck and others to keep students connected with each other.
