How am I supposed to study and prepare for a test on literature?

Answer:

At the end of the day, you can't read every single book that could potentially be on the SAT. As long as you know what to expect and how to take a test, you can and will do well.

Question:

How am I supposed to think critically about a book I don't even enjoy reading?

Answer:

I have read so many books I didn't enjoy throughout my years in University -- you just can't get away from this. Sometimes, though, this proves to be a really great way to think about a novel critically. I mean, think about it... Most of the great reviews online (restaurant, amazon, movie) tend to be negative and unfavorable. Use this to your advantage; what don't you like about the book and why?

Question:

How do I start my essay?

Answer:

However you want! Some people are easily able to begin with the first sentence of a paper; I, on the other hand, find this a completely daunting task! Sometimes I start in the middle of my essay or even with a random quote that I know I can articulate and write about. My best piece of advice for writing papers is to simply write whatever comes to mind first. Most of the time this ends up just being a "thought dump," but something great always comes from it.
