Question:

When creating a website, what is the most important elements to focus on.

Twila S.
Answer:

1) It is important to start by identifying the top 3 goals you have for the site. If you are a business owner, one of your goals might include making sales. If you are a nonprofit, your goal might be to increase online donations. 2) Next, I always recommend starting with your core message instead of the design of the site. The design should be there to enhance the message not distract from it. 3) think of ways to use design to support the goals and the overall message of the site. Good design shouldn't be the focus, the brand and the brand story should be the focus. Using Apple.com as a case study, you will see that the number one business goal is to sell products. The design of the site is subtle. The main menu is minimal. The homepage highlights beautiful products. The products stand out against a white background to showcase their beautiful design. The website looks effortless but is the result of a million intentional decisions to let the product shine, which in turn meets the business goals.

Question:

When writing an essay, where does the thesis go?

Twila S.
Answer:

This is a great question and it can depend on the kind of essay you are writing. The thesis is the overall topic that frames the essay and presents your unique take on the topic. A general guide would be to include it in the first paragraph. You can begin by using a few descriptive sentences to introduce your topic. For example, if you are writing an essay on women's voting rights, you could begin by describing the time period and what society was like for women at that time. Next, you can introduce a problem statement, a question, or subtopics. For example, you could describe three unique challenges women faced including legal, political, and domestic obstacles. And finally, you could end your intro paragraph with your thesis statement. For example, you could describe what you believe are the three important historical events that contributed to women winning their right to vote.
