Question:

In essay writing, what is a topic sentence? When should it be used? Why is it important?

Inactive
Philip C.
Answer:

A topic sentence is the first sentence of a paragraph. It clearly defines the purpose of the paragraph and often links it to the overarching thesis of an essay. It's important because it helps to organize the argument in a linear fashion that's easy to understand. By linking topic sentences from paragraph to paragraph, a writer can express an idea in a fluid progression that leads a reader naturally from the proposition to the conclusion.

Question:

Define binary logic and fuzzy logic and describe a practical difference.

Answer:

Binary logic is rooted in the assumption that only two truth values exist: entirely true and entirely false. Because of this, a truth value can either be a 0 or a 1. Fuzzy logic allows for percentages of truth and so incorporates the logical metric between the 0 and the 1. Binary logic, also called Boolean logic (so named after its creator George Boole), is the basis for computer programming. Fuzzy logic is a development that allows computer scientists to program, for instance, clothing dryers that can sense the level of dampness in fabric and alter their function based on that determination.

Question:

When designing, it's important to know which color profile work best for different types of media. Which color profile would you use for web design? Why? Which color profile would you use for paper print? Why? What could happen if you didn't choose the right color profile for your medium?

Answer:

In web design, an RGB color profile works best because computer monitors display color in varying intensities of red, green, and blue. The variation of these intensities are often communicated using hex codes, such as #000000 for black. This color profile often generates hues that are darker than CMYK. CMYK is the standard color profile for paper print because it generates lighter hues that print truer on white paper. If an incorrect color profile was used in generating a design for a particular medium, the colors displayed/printed wouldn't be accurate. There are tools in Photoshop, for instance, that can convert color profiles. However, it's always best to use the correct color profile from the start.
