Answer:

Oftentimes, the varying views within society lead to inevitable tension and a clash of perspectives. In William Golding’s allegory novel, Lord of the Flies, Golding emphasizes Piggy’s, who is an intellectual outcast, determined idealism on a civilized and orderly society on the island. However, while Piggy’s stubbornness and narrow perspective on his ideal view on how the group should be regulated enable the boys to be organized and adapted, the inevitable contrast and inability to conform leads to his demise against Jack, a barbarian hunter. Piggy’s consequences of his idealism indicate that individuals within the same society with differing beliefs will eventually conflict in their ideals and lead to the downfall of society itself.

Question:

A waterpark has 3 pools and each pool has 5 waterslides. How many waterslides are there in the entire waterpark?

Answer:

We can approach this question using a diagram, addition, and multiplication. Using a diagram, we can draw three circles representing pools with 5 lines (waterslides) in each circle. Counting each line will total up to 15 which is the number of waterslides at the park. Using addition, we can add 5 three times to make 15 because each pool has five waterslides: 5 slides in first pool+5 slides in second pool+5 in third pool=15 waterslides. Using multiplication we can say 3 pools x 5 slides = 15 waterslides.

Question:

Find the value of y with the equation 6x−8(-y+5)=2 when x=−1.

Answer:

Before plugging in "x" into the equation, it is best to look at the equation in chunks. Anything in parenthesis should be addressed first and because -y and +5 do not share the same variable, they cannot be added together. Therefore, we look one more step outward to the -8 (don't forget the negative) where we want to distribute -8 to inside the parenthesis using the FOIL method (first outer inner last). We do this by making sure every single number inside the parenthesis gets -8 as a "partner" or is multiplied by it. You should get this: 6x+8y-40=2. Remember that a negative times a negative makes a positive or in this case, a plus sign. Because -40 and 2 both do not have a variable, they can be added together, but because -40 is on the opposite side of the = sign, we have to add it to both sides which makes it to 42 on the left side of the = sign. We should now have this: 6x+8y=42. We then plug -1 into "x", so 6(-1)+8y=42. Using the same method as before, we add 6 to the other side to 42 to make 48. With 8y=48, we can get "y" alone by dividing it by 8 on both sides. 48/8 is 6 so y=6 when x=-1.
