Question:

(5*8)+2=

Jake G.
Answer:

You always have to perform the operation in parenthesis before adding so the first step is to multiply 5 and 8 which is equal to 40. Then you add 2 and get 42.

Question:

You have a bag of marbles containing 4 green, 2 red, 5 yellow and 6 pink. You reach into the bag and pull out a green marble and put it on the table. What is the probability the next marble you pull out is yellow.

Jake G.
Answer:

Probability is the chances or number of times something can happen divided by the total number of possible events. So the number of times you can pick a yellow is six. The number of possible events is the total number of marbles in the bag. So its 2 red + 5 yellow + 6 pink + 3 green=116. It is 3 green and not 4 because you already took 1 green out. So the probability of picking a yellow marble is 6/16 = .375 or 37.5%

Question:

You have$15 to buy 2 balls and a baseball mitt. The baseball mitt cost $7. How much must each ball cost if there will be no change.

Jake G.
Answer:

You need to set up an equation. You will set it equal to your budget, $15. The equation will need to take into account the cost of the baseball and the mitt. So we know the cost of the mitt is $7 we need to find the cost of the balls. There are two balls so we can take the price of one ball,X, and multiply it by two. So the equation is $15=$7+(2*X). We need to get the X by itself so we can subtract the $7 from each side of the equation making it $8=2*X. Finally to find X we need to divide each side of the eqaution by 2. ($8/2)=((2*X)/2)=>$4=X. So each ball costs $4.
