Question:

What is a noble gas and why are these elements of interest?

Claudia W.
Answer:

Noble gasses are that occupy Group 18 of the periodic table of elements. They are unique because many including helium, neon, argon, xenon, and radon are nonreactive. This is because they all have 8 valance electrons. This means that the outer shell of electrons is full or complete, so these elements do not react with others.

Question:

What are some risk factors for a PE? What is a PE?

Claudia W.
Answer:

A PE is a pulmonary embolism. This is a blood clot that forms in your lungs. Patients who have recently had surgery are at greater risk. This is because they are more immobile which could allow for a blood clot to form in their leg and then travel up to the lungs. The results could be fatal if left untreated. Other risk factors include obesity and smoking. If the patient is a female and take birth control pills then that could also be a risk factor. Aspirin is often prescribed to patients with risk factors since it is a blood thinner and will decrease the chance of a blood clot forming.

Question:

If the concentration of salt inside of a cell is greater than the concentration of salt outside of the cell, then which way would water flow? What is the process of the movement of water across the cell membrane known as?

Claudia W.
Answer:

Since the salt concentration is greater inside the cell, water will move from the outside of the cell to the inside. This will dilute the salt concentration inside the cell to be equivalent to that outside of the cell. The movement of water through a membrane is known as osmosis.
