Answer:

As an African-American women with a B.S. Degree in Library Science and Information Services, I am asked this question quite often... "There is a degree for Library Science?" I am also asked by other people in the Library Science community..."I had no idea that there is a university that offers a B.S. Degree in Library Science, because the program is so strenuous!" I absolutely enjoy helping patrons and other people in the community understand that Librarianship and the Degree that comes with it, is a valid profession that requires years of knowledge, experience, and research. I am also extremely proud to tell people that I worked very hard to receive my degree from the only university in the country that offers a B.S. Degree in Library Science because coursework of Librarianship is so difficult, that it is usually only offered in a M.S. or PHD program. It is important for myself as a Library professional, to educate others about how Librarianship is a vital profession because librarians research, manage, and interpret all of the data utilized in just about any profession. Librarianship serves the global community within the fields of science, medicine, technology, data collection, and of course education. An amazing example of how Librarianship effects the world, was demonstrated during the recent global pandemic. Librarians were utilized all over the world to perform Contact Tracing. Contract Tracing is the science of quickly identifying, managing, and assessing how Covid 19 patients were initially exposed to the virus. Professionals within the library and research community spent thousands of hours tracing how and where the patients were infected. This important research helped medical professionals and government officials understand exactly how this vicious and contagious virus was being spread and transmitted on a global scale. Librarians are unsung heroes who are behind the scene helping the world to heal. That's why Librarians are so very Important!

Question:

What literacy skill that are taught in Early Childhood Education that is the foundation of Life-time Learning?

Answer:

I believe that Phonological Awareness is the foundational literacy skill that is cornerstone of learning that will continue into higher education, and even into adulthood. The concept of Phonological Awareness is significant to the process of life-time learning because requires learners to understand the way in which letters represent sounds. If Phonological Awareness is not taught during the Early Childhood Education years, students can not understand how letters are translated into sound, which then is translated into written language. Without phoneme awareness, students may be mystified by the print system and how it represents the spoken word (Moats, 2009; Tolman,2009). This means that students who are not exposed to Phonological Awareness in Early Childhood Education may not have the literacy understructure needed understand letter sounds and language as they progress through their education lifespan.

Answer:

My teaching philosophy for teaching any subject, but especially English, Writing, and Literacy is to utilize the knowledge already possess prior to entering my classroom. I believe that when a teacher draws upon the preexisting comprehension that a student has initially, students feel more confident even when they face new curriculum. When students feel empowered from the start, they Thrive!
