Question:

SO we are learning fractions. How would you multiply a fraction 2/3 X 4/8?

Justin J.
Answer:

First lets look at the equation. We need to break down the numerator (top) and the denominator (bottom), we will multiple straight across. so 2 x 4 = 8. then 3 x 8 = 24. the fraction becomes 8/24. we need to find out if this is the lowest numbers we can achieve in the fraction. We can find the greatest common factor. This happens to be where both numbers are divisible by 8. SO take the numerator and divide 8/8=1 and the denominator which is 8/24 or 3. so the fraction would be 1/3.

Question:

What is a food chain and how does it differ from a food web?

Justin J.
Answer:

A food chain shows how animals obtain nutrition, or energy, from another animal. A food chain starts out with the smallest form of energy. That would be the sun. The plants take in energy directly from the sun, so that puts them next in line for the chain, what eats the plants? maybe giraffe eats the plants. The giraffe now has the energy from the plants. Then the lion eats the giraffe. This is all a food chain, It is the transfer of energy of a specific situation. A food web differs because it discusses the transfer of energy throughout the ecosystem. There are many animals in an ecosystem. For instance, the sun feeds the algae, who can be eaten by a catfish, or a dragonfly. Then we need to trace the energy release to both. Then a hawk may eat the fish. Then a smaller bird eats the dragon fly, and the hawk eats the smaller bird. It shows the complexity of the food chains from several different animals.

Question:

How do you figure out the slope of a line with the equation 4y-3x=12

Justin J.
Answer:

In order to calculate the point of a line you need the equation. First you need to find the y. IN order to find the y, you solve for y. 4y-3x=12. since it is subtracting 3x from 4 y, you will add 3x to both sides of the equation. you then get 4y=3x+12. After that you need to get rid of the 4 in front of the y to figured out y. You would take the equation and divide by 4 on both sides. so the equation would look line 4y/4=3x/4+12/4 . Solve to get y=3/4x+3. You then solved for y. Put in two separate points into the x to plot the points on a graph. We can plug any number into X. Lets take 0. y=.75(0)+4. .75 multiplied by zero? ANYTHING multiplied by 0 equals zero. So now we have y=4. Now put a point on the graph at (0,4). Now lets input another number. Lets say 4. Now the equation is y=.75(4)+4. We figure out (.75)(4)=3. So the equation is y=3+4, or y=7. Now plot the point (4, 7). Now draw a line between the two dots. Now to figure out the slope of the equation, we need to now figure out rise over run. To do this we need to figure out the equation (y2-y1)/(x2-x1). So y2=7, y1=4. the difference is 7-4, or 3. the x axis is x2-x1 or 4-0 or 4. the slope would be 3/4. Any questions?
