Answer:

You probably have a general idea of the theme of your novel, or perhaps you have been thinking of the plot. But when you sit down to create your story, start with your main character.

Question:

What is the difference between the plot and the theme of a novel?

Answer:

The plot is what happens. It's the who, what, when, and where of the story. The theme refers to the message the story attempts to send. For example, if you write a story about a greedy man who rises to the top of a corporation and then experiences a downfall because of that greed, the theme is probably that greed will not win out in the end. The plot is simply what happens as the man rises to the top and experiences his downfall.

Question:

When writing a researched essay, what does it mean to use an academic tone?

Answer:

Writing in an academic tone means the writing should be informal in that it should be written so that it sounds like polite but ordinary speech when read out loud. However, academic tone is neutral and professional. Using "I" or "me" or "my" and sharing stories about your personal life should be avoided.
