Question:

How does someone gain true fluency of a language?

Answer:

The best way to gain fluency and understanding of another language is through immersion. Though this may not be possible in a tutoring session, it is important to do everything possible to get as close to an immersive experience as possible. This means conducting the all or most of the tutoring session in Spanish and encouraging growth and learning through observation of the tutor's skills. Fluency comes from both explicit teaching, practice, and immersion.

Question:

How does a student show demonstration of understanding of a concept?

Answer:

A student should not only be able to answer a procedural math problem, but also explain the steps they took to get to the answer. This means describing their thought process as well as their motive behind each answer. A student does not truly understand a math problem if they are unable to explain how they got to their answer and why.

Answer:

Crafting ideas stem from your own knowledge and experiences. In order to articulate them in a skillful manner, it is important to gather stock. This means doing the research necessary in order to inform your words and word choice. One communicates with clarity and creativity by thinking of the audience and being authentic. This comes with practice, revision, and discipline.
