How can learning word families, including prefixes and suffixes, help us improve our vocabulary, reading and writing skills?
Word families come from the same basic root. By understanding the meaning of the root and learning patterns of prefixes and suffixes, it is easier to break down a word into the puzzle pieces that it is made up of. By studying these patterns, if you come across a word that may initially be unfamiliar, you may be able to decipher its meaning by applying the patterns you have learned.
Why is it important to study principal parts in Latin?
Principal parts are the four most important forms of the verb. They represent the 4 base forms you will use to create every other form of the verb. From the first and second principle parts, you are able to form the present, imperfect and future tenses along with corresponding participles and infinitives. The third and forth principal parts will allow you to form the perfect, pluperfect and future perfect. Without studying and understanding the purpose of the four principle parts, reading and writing in Latin would be much more challenging.

What can you do when you cannot think of a word that you want to use in a sentence?
Instead of becoming frustrated or "stuck," use other words to describe the word you are looking for. For example, if you can't think of a noun like "school bus," you could instead say "the big yellow car that takes us to school." If you can't think of a verb like "jog" you can try, "when you are going faster than a walk and slower than a run."
