Sectionalism occurs when each state or region puts their desires and values above others. Economic Socialism had to do with the Northern economy based on factories and machinery and the Southern economy based on agriculture that used slaves for free labor. Political sectionalism occurred because various politicians in their support of the North and South were eager to support the region of the country that was home to them, thus contributing to the division in the country. Lastly, social sectionalism occurred because each region of the country had different values and perspectives about race and current events around the country.
