What's one way school systems perpetuate inequality?
School systems perpetuate inequality because of things like tracking. Students who perform poorly are put on a track where they are put into classes with less resources and teachers who consider them "bad" kids. Students who perform poorly tend to be those that come from low income households, whereas students who come from families with high income households have parents that have time to be involved in their child's education, have the opportunity to be tutored, and ultimately have more resources. These students are put on a track where they get teachers speaking with them about college, higher education, where they get classes with more attention given to the different possibilities these students have. Tracking is a way school systems perpetuate inequality.
How does the Second Shift affect family life?
The Second Shift puts a lot of pressure to the woman in the family. Women are expected to come home after a hard days work- only to work some more. They have to prepare food, sweep, take the trash out, make sure the counters are clean, and make sure everything is where it is suppose to be at (toys, laptops, shoes, etc.). That is known as the Second Shift which adds strain the relationship women have with their husbands and causes a lot of stress.
