Questions
Subject: Writing
What is the importance of good writing?
Good writing is, in all probability, the best skill a person can attain through their education. Writing is the cornerstone of communication and as such is universal in its field of application. Someone who can write well can, in all probability, also read well. To read and write well allows someone to acquaint themselves with virtually any subject matter with limited direct instruction. It is the key to self-learning and self-improvement.
Subject: Religious Studies
In Christian theology, what does 'theology proper' refer to?
Theology proper refers to the study of God: the nature of deity, what attributes are ascribable to the divine, and so forth.
Subject: Philosophy
What is philosophy?
Philosophy is understood differently by different philosophers throughout history. There really isn't one conception of philosophy that is overarching all periods in history. During certain periods, different ideas held prevalence. For example, during the ancient and medieval period, philosophy was commonly understood as the study of everything. During that time period, the natural sciences had not grown apart from philosophy and so they would be both referred to as "natural philosophy." Philosophy would've, then, been considered as the study of the causes of anything attainable by the operations of the intellect. Today, philosophy is generally considered a strictly academic discipline which seeks to answer questions to the most fundamental problems of existence. This definition would, in the contemporary period, be agreed on by some philosophers and heavily contested by others.
