Answer:

Writing skills are what many would consider critical success factors. They are the connection between what your mind is thinking, what your soul seeks to express and the tool that brings both concepts together. Writing is not easy for everyone but, the most unique characteristic about Writing is that everyone has their own style, and it is actually quite fun. Written words have power, they convey thoughts, affirm messages, clarify misunderstandings, create an open door and exercise your brain. Writing can result in an amazing resume and cover letter, a winning email that lands you a job, or a professional breakup with your employer that leaves bridges intact. Jump in- writing will change your life!

Answer:

Given that we are in the United States where the predominant language continues to be North American English, being able to understand and speak the language in a way that is clear is extremely important. In addition, mastering proper word choice, understanding situationally aware words and concepts and having strong knowledge of grammar are all critical success factors particularly within Business.

Question:

When thinking about Communication within the scope of your career development and growth, how important do you think soft skills are versus technical skills?

Answer:

The reality is that most companies hire for "fit". "Fit" essentially means your ability to master and demonstrate a sound understanding and application of Soft Skills. Different from technical skills which you can learn from a book, soft skills require a mix of your natural personality and your ability to leverage the characteristics of your personality into your communication style. For example, it is one thing to create an amazing Excel workbook data- that is a technical skill. When you can take that workbook and explain to a client exactly what the data means in a way that he or she understands and embraces, that is a soft skill. For success, regardless of industry, it is imperative to learn and demonstrate a balance of technical and soft skills.
