Answer:

Only Iron is a solid at room temperatur. Steam is obviously a glass and if you've ever heard of mercury thermometers you might know that the metal is molten at room temperature. What you might not know is that glass is actually a liquid it just flows EXTREMELY slowly.

Question:

Part of what makes history entertaining are the examples of simple things that managed to change the course of our world. How has the humble potato impacted changed the world?

Answer:

Long before the Irish potato famine there was the triangular trade. Now the slave trade was a major part of this and clearly had an impact on the trajectory of world history, but what you might not guess is that the introduction of the potato to Europe and Africa also had a massive impact. One cannot underestimate the importance of a stable, easily farmed and incredibly cheap food staple being introduced to Europe. This staple product allowed for many poor and starving people to survive and for a population boom to occur. The political, economic and social fallout from this was immense. It has even been argued by some that the empires that rose in Europe in the next century after its introduction could not have occurred without it. Fun fact, the novelty of the potato was such that it even became vogue in the French court to wear its flowers (as done by Marie Antoinette and Louis the XVI).
