What is the benefit of using motivational interviewing with a client while seeing them for follow up to talk about their health concerns and goals?
It is important to use open-ended questions and motivational interviewing for a variety of reasons. This often leads to benefits such as trust between provider and patient, increased understanding from the patient on what the provider is educating about, increased conversation that may lead to key facts in the patient's case, obtainable and realistic goals that the patient will make themselves, increased patient involvement in self-management.

SBAR is typically used when needed to communicate with another team member about a patient. For example, prior to calling a physician about a patient it is helpful to use this tool to organize your thoughts, concerns, and suggested plan of action. S - SITUATION (for example what prompted your call? ) B- Background (for example what is the patient's history/allergies / medications ) A- Assessment ( what are the patient's vital signs, input, and output, status) R- Recommendation (if you have any recommendations to suggest)
