Question:

As with any language, the English language is dependent on living people to bring meaning to the vocabulary used. What is an example of an object or an idea that English speakers in different geographical regions use different names?

Answer:

One example of English speakers from different places using different words for the same object is the words "lorry" and "semi-truck." In the UK and Ireland, English speakers use the word lorry to describe a large truck that pulls a commercial load of goods. In the United States, a native speaker there would say "semi-truck." These words, although completely different, have the same meaning in the English language.

Question:

In relation to communication as a facet to anthropological studies, how might one's personal experience affect data collection, coding and theory development?

Answer:

When one conducts qualitative research on a person or group's communicative style and patterns, one must understand that the researcher cannot escape one's own life experience and how it always affects research, from data collection to analysis. To combat this and attempt to remain transparent in their findings, note, throughout the process, how one's own life experience affected what data one chose to record and how what the researcher deems valuable reflects what themes in that data are analyzed.
