Question:

What is the difference between a quote and a paraphrase?

Michele K.
Answer:

A quote is the exact words taken from your source and included in your paper. A quote should always be surrounded by quotation marks. A paraphrase gives information taken from your source, but written in your own words.

Question:

I'm writing a paper about the effects of social media on teenagers and need two peer reviewed journal articles that discuss this topic.

Michele K.
Answer:

Thank you for your research question. That's an interesting topic! It might help to narrow down your topic in order to find better results. For example, you can narrow it a bit further by changing it to the "negative effects of social media on teenagers." A good place to start is the database Opposing Viewpoints by Gale. This database allows you to search current issues by topic and read articles from different viewpoints. It also contains helpful links to journal articles, websites, etc. If you're searching the electronic databases provided by your school library, combine search terms such: "social media" AND "teenagers" AND "negative effects" You'll have to play around with search terms to find the types of articles you're looking for. Make sure to "set limiters" provided on the library search screen such as "full text" (so your results show only full articles) and "peer reviewed" articles (so your results show only scholarly journal articles). I hope this helps you get started on your research. If you need any further assistance, please let me know!

Question:

Literary Analysis Question Example: In the novel Wuthering Heights, what are some of the flaws or weaknesses of the antagonist Heathcliff?

Michele K.
Answer:

A complex and tormented character, Heathcliff evolves into a man driven by revenge who manipulates and torments those around him. It can be argued that his major weakness is his undying love for Catherine, a love that borders on obsession and leads him into despair and acts of violence towards those around him.
