If a transversal cuts two parallel lines, explain where the alternate interior angles would be.
Alternate interior angles, firstly, are on opposite sides of the transversal (which is the line that intersects the two parallel lines). Interior means inside, therefore, the angles will be on the inside of the parallel lines. There are two sets of alternate interior angles, both inside the parallel lines, and both on opposite sides of the transversal. Finally, alternate interior angles are equal in measure, and they are formed by making the shape of a 'Z'.

Solve the following equation: 2x-4=8
When solving an equation it is important to keep the equation balanced. Therefore, whatever you do to one side of an equation, you have to do to the other side. Also, when we solve an equation, we are trying to isolate the variable. So in this case, we would first add 4 to both sides, since this will cancel out the 4 from the left had side (getting closer to isolating the variable). Now the equation will be 2x=12. The last step is to divide both sides by 2, since divide is the opposite of multiply. so x=6.

Solve the following equation by factoring: x^2 - 12 = -4x
To solve a quadratic equation by factoring, first set the equation equal to zero (in this question, do this by adding 4x to both sides). Now, to factor this quadratic we have to find factors of -12 that add up to 4. These are 6 and -2. So our factored form is (x+6)(x-2) = 0. Using the zero product property, either x+6=0, or x-2=0. Solving these equations gives us the solutions of -6 and 2.
