Question:

What is the point of learning "skills" for studying?

Katherine W.
Answer:

Just as every individual has a unique personality and varying interests, hobbies, etc., each person also learns in different ways! There is not a cookie cutter model for how to become a successful student. Instead, both your personality and the particular content you're studying need to be weighed together to create a personal "plan of attack ." Whether your goal is to pass the class or get a passing grade on the assignment, or become the master of the content and achieve a perfect grade, your study habits should be tailored to your leaning styles and needs. Finding and applying study skills will help you conquer even very difficult content...and if one strategy doesn't work, there's a million more to choose from!

Question:

Why is early childhood impactful on an individual's life?

Katherine W.
Answer:

Educational and psychological studies have shown that the first 5 years of a child's life are foundational to their lifelong physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. Young children may not remember many specific details of their earliest years of life, but the impact of early external influences are crucial to the person they will become. It is necessary for early childhood educators to be aware of the stages of young children's development, to provide a safe and supportive learning environment, and to invest time and effort into creating the foundational experiences that will build not only students who are ready to enter their school experiences, but also future citizens who are well- rounded, articulate, and self-aware.

Question:

Why are English skills such as good grammar, accurate spelling, appropriate punctuation, and descriptive language important in reading and writing?

Katherine W.
Answer:

Words are immensely powerful! The words we choose and the emotion with which we say them help us distinguish ourselves as individuals and establish a personality through the way we speak. The way we talk says a lot about who we are! The same is true for written words. When we read, we are either hooked or become bored based on how the author has presented their words. If their writing is full of mistakes, don't we quickly mentally invalidate what they have to say? I want to have a personality that is revealed through my writing, don't you? I want to be credible because I present my ideas correctly and in an interesting way. These grammar skills may be boring to you to discuss in theory, but in practice they will help establish yourself as a believable and personable source of information-- whatever the topic may be!
