Javascript Programming

Question:

What is the purpose of using console.log?

Clarence T.
Answer:

Putting "console.log" inside of your JavaScript code is the basis of what we call "debugging" in JavaScript. When writing out console.log and putting some text (or an argument) inside, you'll be able to visually inspect what actions your code is taking when it runs. Although console.log is certainly not the only way to debug, it's likely the best method to learn how to start debugging.

Question:

Why is it a good idea to properly indent you HTML code?

Clarence T.
Answer:

Although indenting may not seem important since it doesn't affect your code's functionality; indenting helps to easily keep track of parent-child elements in your code. This may not seem like a big deal if you have a small application with less than say 100 lines of code. However, as your project starts to grow, it will be crucial to quickly identify parent-child elements for your sanity and the sanity of any potential team members!

CSS

Question:

As a front-end developer, why would you want to keep you CSS inside of a different file rather than keep it inside you HTML document?

Clarence T.
Answer:

Keeping your CSS inside of a separate file will give you two benefits. First, it will allow your HTML document to read much cleaner. By keeping your CSS code separate from your HTML, you're less likely to get confused as your website grows. Second, keeping your CSS in a separate file allows you to easily reuse your designs on multiple HTML pages without having to change each HTML document when you want to restyle your website. If you have your CSS in one file, you only have to go to one place to restyle your entire website!
