Early Childhood Education

Question:

Johnny and Julia are both two years old. Citing a theory of development, what type of play would you expect to see them engaged in?

Agnieszka M.
Answer:

According to Piaget's theory of cognitive development, children at age two are egocentric. This means that, cognitively, the world revolves around them. Because of this, you would see the two year old children engaged in parallel play, as they are playing in their own world and not developmentally able to engage with other children. The children would also be using egocentric language to express their inner thoughts, rather than to communicate with others.
